Courtney and Team Kenda still alive in the fight for the 2011 Dodge Viper Cup Championship

Finishes 2nd and 3rd at Texas World Speedway

College Station, Texas (September 4, 2011) — As expected things heated up over the Memorial Day weekend at Texas World Speedway, in the Dodge Viper Cup Championship, Jeff Courtney, driver of the #99 KENDA Tires/JCR Motorsports Dodge Viper ACR-X, qualified third then finished second on Saturday, and qualified fifth and finished third on Sunday at the 2 mile superspeedway.

The chase for the championship was on, as the top three drivers in the point’s race were running one, two and three throughout the majority of Saturday’s race. Late in the race while running second, point’s leader Ben Keating cut a tire causing him to pit and drop back to eighth place. “While I was fighting 051811P2with an ill-handling race car and battling for what I thought was third or fourth place against Eric Galerne, I had no idea what was happening with Ben.” said Courtney

As it turns out Jeff’s last lap pass on Galerne was for second place not for third, as Courtney had thought. This was a welcomed surprise, putting Jeff within four points of the Championship lead after Saturday’s race.

Sunday after qualifying a disappointing fifth for the second race of the weekend, Courtney moved up to third position within the race’s first two laps and started to close in on the leaders.

“Once I got around Dave and Kurt, the leaders had pretty much checked out on me,” said Courtney. “I gained some ground on them early in the race but then burned up the tires in doing so and faded back.” This was the first time Courtney and his crew traveled to the Texas Superspeedway. “Thanks to the JCR Motorsports crew for throwing just about every change possible into the car this weekend, although we never really figured this track out.” said Courtney

With the completion of Round 8, Courtney is currently second in the Championship points standing, 32 points behind Keating, with AJ Morgan only 8 points behind Courtney, making way for an exciting season finally as the chase for the Dodge Viper Cup Championship finishes up October 22-23 at the Daytona International Speedway.
