Courtney/JCR Motorsports Debuts Audi R8 LMS At The Streets of St. Pete

The Pirelli World Challenge championships series opened its fourth consecutive racing season with a double-header in St. Pete as part of the Honda Grand Prix IZOD IndyCar event. The Kenda/ Audi R8 LMS was part of history as a record number of R8 cars competed in North America at the St. Pete Sports Car Challenge presented by StopTech.Richard Prince Photography

Switching brands from the Porsche 911 GT3 to the Audi R8 LMS came last minute in the off-season for JCR Motorsports and put pressure on the team to get the car setup and in Florida to make the event.

“We came here to get some time in the car and establish a foundation,” stated Courtney. “It was a rough outing for us, too many things were last minute, and a lot of parts unfortunately came in late or didn’t make it in time.”

After wrapping up the Pirelli World Challenge season with a top ten finish last year, Courtney was eager to get back into GT class racing and get the year started off with a solid finish. After having mechanical issues on Saturday and then setup issues on Sunday, it was a challenging weekend for driver and team. The weekend did allow for the new JCR crew members and team to gel and learn some very useful information and data going forward into the Long Beach Grand Prix, April 19th.

“We made use of the weekend to learn this new car,” replied Courtney.“We experienced some issues with the transmissions, which the crew stayed up into the early hours of Sunday morning and sorted so we could comeback Sunday. It was a chain of events and learning curves. We look forward to more testing coming in the near future and continuing to develop as we go along. We hope by the Circuit of the America’s we will be completely dialed-in.”
