Milwaukee, WI – Jeff Courtney and the No. 99 Kenda/RecStuff.com Audi R8 Ultra opened the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge season with a strong fifth place finish at the Streets of St. Petersburg on March 28th-30th.
With little test or track time behind the wheel of a new car configuration prior to the event, Courtney conservatively secured a seventh place starting position adapting to damp and drying track conditions during qualifying.
After a brilliant standing start gaining six positions, Courtney was caught up in turn one contact that knocked his No. 99 Kenda/RecStuff.com Audi R8 Ultra out of alignment. Courtney was able to adapt to the handling issues and stay competitive among the FIA GT3 field.
“We were able to stay moving and have a great late race battle with Bret Curtis. It was a fun, clean and great battle with Bret! After many hard fought laps we were able to get by and finished fifth in GT-A and 13th overall” said Courtney.
Courtney and the JCR Motorsports team look forward to the 40th running of the Long Beach Grand Prix on April 11th-13th for Round 2 of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships.
“Long Beach is a very historic and great event; we look forward to racing there every year. Of all the street races, Long Beach is my favorite” said Courtney.
The Long Beach Grand Prix is a temporary 1.97-mile street course. Qualifying will take place on Saturday, April 12 at 5:15 p.m. PST. Round 2 of the Pirelli World Challenge will begin Sunday, April 13 at 4:30 p.m. PST.
The race can be streamed live at www.world-challengetv.com as well as on NBC Sports on Sunday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. EST.
