Some bad luck at VIR still has Courtney heading into Laguna Seca with the MNA Championship lead

Milwaukee, WI – September 11, 2015 – JCR Motorsports driver Jeff Courtney campaigned the No. 99 Pennzoil / Maserati of Charlotte and Greensboro / Recstuff.com / Kenda Tire Maserati two weeks ago at Virginia International Raceway for Rounds 3 and 4 of the Maserati Trofeo World Series.

Courtney qualified fifth in a very tight field for Race 1, and a strong start boosted him to third almost immediately where he settled in and started to measure the first and second place cars and noticing they were using up a lot of their tires early on.  Courtney was keeping pace and protecting his tires for a second half charge for the win when coming out of Oak Tree Turn, the dash clip broke causing the dash to fall into the steering wheel. (Watch The Video Here!) Courtney attempted to resolve the issue from the cockpit but that did not pan out. When exiting the final turn the dash jammed the steering wheel, turning Courtney and resulting in a bit of contact. At this point Courtney had no choice but to make a pit stop which relegated him to a 15th place finish. “ It was very disappointing for such a strange thing to take us out of contention, I had a great car, a great strategy I know we were going to win that race!” said Courtney.

Saturday’s race began with an 10 car inverted field which meant Courtney started in the back of the pack. The caution that Courtney hoped for in Race 1 was delivered in in spades in Race 2. The inconvenience of yellow flags was matched by the amount of debris on track which made it almost impossible to execute a clean pass. Courtney crossed the finish line in 8th place. “ Unfortunately the bad luck from Fridays race put us in a tough spot starting so far back on Saturday but we did move forward and into the MNA points lead so we are happy about  that.” said Courtney

I had a great time meeting everyone from Maserati of Charlotte and Greensboro,” said Courtney. “Thank you all for coming out and cheering us on, I really appreciate it and thanks to Bob Pletcher for putting together this sponsorship.

The final race in the 2015 Maserati North America Championship this weekend will be not in the Maserati Trofeo World Series but in the Pirelli World Challenge GTS race at the famed Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey California. “ This will be my first time running in the super competitive PWC GTS class so I look forward to that challenge along with the challenge of winning the MNA Championship” said Courtney

The race can be viewed live on www.world-challengetv.com and Torque.TV. A full schedule of events and more can be found at www.world-challenge.com
