Jeff Courtney, of Milwaukee, WI, qualified the No. 99 Kenda Tire / RecStuff.com Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4 in eighth position in a very tight field for Saturday’s race. Courtney would suffer a wheel speed sensor malfunction in the early laps of Saturday’s race which caused a front wheel lock up that flat spotted the right front tire to the cords. At that point there was no chance of moving forward and Courtney would be thankful and probably lucky to finish in the 9th position.
“To be honest I am amazed we finished the race, I knew the tire was in bad shape by the way the car was driving but if I had known the extent of the damage that I viewed after the race I probably would have parked the car, I am amazed how well the Pirelli PZero held up and thankful we did not have a major blowout and or crash, We were lucky” said Courtney.

Sunday’s race was a standing start and Courtney was placed in twelfth position on the GTS starting grid do to Saturdays circumstances, Courtney got off to a good start keeping the leaders in sight and turning similar lap times to the leader in the first half of the race and saving tires for a late-race charge to the front. Just over the halfway point of the race two competitors ahead of Courtney made contact in turn 9. The contact caused a massive amount of dirt and dust to be kicked up leaving zero visibility and Courtney’s race would end with a crash into a spun car sitting in the middle of the track exiting turn 9, Courtney was able to limp the car back to the pits but the was far too much damage to repair.

“Sunday was a tough day,” said Courtney. “We had to start towards the back but I was confident we would and could move forward, we really just wanted to run a smart race by keeping in touch with the leaders early and then be aggressive in the second half of the race with good tires! We keep getting caught up in things we shouldn’t be around and for some reason we cannot shake this run of bad luck, it is obviously a bit disappointing for me the team and our sponsors but I am that much more motivated to deliver my sponsors Kenda Tire and RecStuff.com and the JCR Motorsports crew strong results at the season finale in Monterrey.”
